7 Mind-Boggling Questions from the FlashForward Premiere

by Roco on September 28, 2009 · 37 comments

The premiere of FlashForward may not have been as mythology-laden as some where expecting, but it did raise some burning questions. We thought it would be a good idea to compile 7 of our most pressing questions from 1.01 No More Good Days, so that we can track them throughout the rest of the season to see when they get answered.

7 Questions - No More Good Days1. Why didn’t Dimitri see his future?

Does his lack of a flash forward mean that he won’t be alive come April 29th? If so, is there a way to change the future to guarantee personal survival?

How can this be achieved, and at what price for others?

2. Why..or rather, HOW did Dimitri and Mark get split up during the GBO?

They were in the car together before the GBO, and yet they wake up a fair distance away from one another after the GBO.

What caused them to seperate and why didn’t either of them question it?

Is Dimitri in on some kind of conspiracy – was he expecting the GBO?

3. What’s with the kids?

Was it just me, or did the the kids come across as being very mystical? The Benford’s girl gave us our episode title when she warned that there’d be ‘no more good days’ – a childlike interpretation of a bleak future? Whilst Lloyd Simcoe’s kid knew Olivia’s name even though they had never met – an indication that he saw her in his flash forward.

So again, what’s with the kids?

4. Is the GBO man-made or some thing above us all?

What can we read into the flash forward? Was it triggered, rooted in our DNA or could it have been a mistake..a one-off event? Did the flash forward come about to help us, or to serve as a warning?

5. Why didn’t everyone blackout?

7 Billion people on the earth and yet not everyone lost consciousness during the global blackout, as revealed right at the end of the episode. Who is the man the Internet is calling “suspect zero”? Why did he not blackout? Did he know the GBO was coming? Are there others like him?

Whose flashes of the future are the most important? With 7 billion people on the planet, are some of these people just pawns for a higher order?

6. Who are the sides at play?

We know that Mosaic are the investigative team trying to piece together the flash forwards, but we also have hints at individuals or organizations with vested interests in the GBO. What are their objectives, and are they for working for the greater good or the greater evil?

Skippy

7. What’s up with the Kangaroo?

The camera held on Skippy for far too long for it to have been a random occurrence. I’m expecting the Kangaroo to be an overarching part of the mythology, but what does it mean?

If you have any possible theories or ideas relating to these questions, or others that we have not covered above, feel free to let us know in the comments.

I think the Kangaroo is a red herring. I also think the event is man made. Looking forward to an explanation though!

  • Flash4ward

As you said in point 3, Lloyd Simcoe’s kid knew Olivia’s name: he must have seen her in his Flash Forward. But Olivia didn’t see the kid in her Flash Forward? I thought these things always matched up if two people were involved – for instance, the bird flying into the window at the meeting of the New Scotland Yard detective and the FBI guy?

  • Hopeless

So all of these “visions” are based on what “might” happen not what “will” happen?

Ergo it might be obsession that causes this to happen, I like the idea Dimitri might have not seen anything because he was conscious when everyone passed out but lost memory of that when everyone started coming around.

Of course if he continues to believe otherwise that might fulfil his lack of foresight BUt I’d like to see where they go with this…

  • Mark10

If the date and time in April 2010 is of such significance why did it seem like an ordinary time in the visions people had (i.e people in meetings in London etc). I’ve only seen the first episode so maybe it’ll be obvious in upcoming shows.

  • indigoschild

the tattoo of the three stars mean that the illuminati is involved with the event of everyone passing out….

  • JSpen

With Lloyd Simcoe’s kid, I’m assuming that even if he didn’t see her, he probably knows who she is seeing as his dad is obviously in an intimate relationship with her by April 29, 2010, and she had already treated him in the hospital as his doctor by that point in time.

  • JT Mann

Could this date have something to do with a 12 North Prenatal Eclipse ?

  • JT Mann

Is this associated with a 12 North Prenatal Eclipse?

  • JT Mann

    Other possibilities:
    1) He is in a comma in the future, or
    2) He is unconscious, or
    3) He is sleeping, or
    4) He is in a non-affected area, sort of like a sealed room, or
    5) He is not on this world, or
    6) He is underground.

    Just some ideas.

I think the flash forwards are going to happen more often. I think the dates are when the next one will happen. I also think they are leading up to Dec. 21. 2012. This is a very important date. Our sun will be in a Galactic Allignment. The flash forwards may be helping us prepare for what maybe coming.

  • JT Mann

2 minutes 17 seconds is 137 seconds. 137 is the integer inverse of the Eddington number, or fine constant calculation.

  • JT Mann

A prenatal eclipse precedes the birth of the nativity. The implication is that something is coming, or specifically someone.

  • http://www.flashforcast.com Eric

Wow, that’s a great point about Lloyd’s son! I didn’t think that through enough. He must have been somewhere where he saw Olivia’s name. Could have been in the house with her and Lloyd, I guess?

    Eric

  • jason

Did any notice the oceanic sign it said the safest filght recored may it had something to do with the hatch in lost like how desmond could see stuff happen?

  • Tom

what is the 12 north prenatal eclipse?

  • JT Mann

One more thing… if you begin with the premise that April 29, 2010 is a START date, and then subtract 217 days (one per second of blackout), you get September 24, 2009, which is the launch date of the series on television. So, for ever second of sleep, they passed one day. You can confirm this math here:

    http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?m1=4&d1=29&y1=2010&type=sub&ay=&am=&ad=217&aw=

  • JT Mann

Go here for information on a prenatal eclipse: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/astrology_spiritual_guide/75985

Now, after reading, remember that one of the cast members is pregnant and is so at the event in her vision. On April 29, 2010, her baby’s prenatal eclipse would occur as follows:
    15-Jan-2010 / 7:07 AM / Solar / Annular / S141 / 12N / Cap 25°01′

Remember the old Nazi who claims to know about the Flash Forward in the previews for upcoming episodes? Let’s keep in mind Hitler’s birthday (4/20/1889) and death day (4/30/45 allegedly). Weird that they are both in APRIL! Might be something, might not be.

  • RiverFox08

For Dimitri, people fly out of cars all the time in car accidents, if he was not wearing his seatbelt then it is not inconceivable that he may have been ejected from the vehicle as it was overturned. I wonder if he’s in on it too, his girlfriend said she saw their wedding. It would be surprising, yet, unsurprising if he was in on it. Like Harper’s Island, the main guy in the whole show turned out to be one of the killers in the end. Perhaps our Mark Benford could be in on it somehow.

  • RiverFox08

As for the kids, they did seem pretty creepy. Benford’s daughter was watching a cartoon that I didn’t recognize, where something huge emerges from the ground. I think that something insane will happen in the last 5 minutes of the last episode of this season, locking everyone in to watch the premier of the second season. The other kid knows Olivia, which is probably because she ends up being with the kid’s father (from Pirates of the Carribean). This guy’s involved too. As for why there appeared to be just one person around when everyone blacked out, he’s in on it.. That’s it.

  • RiverFox08

Lastly, I love that what everyone saw in their FF’s wouldn’t have necessarily happened unless they saw the Flash forward.. Like Mark’s friend, he saw himself kneeling over his daughter. Thinking she’s dead, he would not have gone out and searched for her if he didn’t see her alive in his flash forward. Thus, this enfactually changes the future. everyone’s flash forward was based on the future WITH seeing the FF. It seems like a warning for some, and an unrealistic reality for others. I see the line dividing everyone as we speak. I have no clue what’s up with the kangaroo.

  • Lynette

except that 217 days isn’t one per second of blackout! 2 minutes = 120 seconds plus 17 seconds = 137 days.

  • SteveJ

The kid said her name upon seeing her when he was rolled into the hospital. Olivia commented, wondering how he knew her name.

  • SteveJ

    It’s also a prime #.

  • SteveJ

They weren’t asleep 217 seconds. They were asleep 2 minutes, 17 seconds = 137 seconds. Sorry JT Mann.

  • SteveJ

I postulate that the flash in FF ends up being related to something that happens in the end of Lost (time shifts). I know, far fetched, problems with duplicate actors. I’m just sayin’.

  • John

The cartoon Charlie was watching is called Tim Tim and Squirrely (not sure of the spelling). The producers told us in a webcast that they will be parallelling some of the themes in this made up cartoon and that the actors in the show are doing the voices of the cartoon characters.

  • Nat

Could FF and Lost be connected? I know some of the on-line posts claim that they are two separate shows, but the themes seem to be so close in nature. Could the blackout had been caused by the plane crash or vice versa?
The random kangaroo in the first episode could have been from the Lost Island. There are other Lost references in FF – time travel, the Oceanic airline, and Olivia and Penny being the same person.

Yes, it’s far fetched, but so is the black smoke monster and Suspect Zero!

  • Arron

I think we all need to stop reading into this like the lost fans do with that show , this is a totaly different concept to lost and if you have read the book like me you know the outcome and cause of the GBO , all i would say is dont read into everything that happens like the lost fans.

  • JT Mann

Hey, it was a long day and late at night. Sorry for the math error.

  • Andy

    Two things:
    1. To all who think this show is connected with LOST. LOST and Flash Forward are NOT going to be connected in ANY way!!! Oceanic is just part of ABC and can be found in more than just LOST and FF. Also, the GBO didn’t cause the plane crash, those events happened in different years and not the same day!
    2. Arron, I’m not so sure about your comment about not reading into everything that happens for a couple of reason:
    -Reason 1-
The idea for FF is taken from the book, but I know that you can tell that it has already been drastically changed from the book. Some of the story may coincide, but a I believe that a vast majority of it will be from the those creative men that came up with LOST, which leads to reason two.
    -Reason 2-
Because it has the same producers as LOST, I am willing to be that there is going to be more put into the show than meets the casual eye. There will most likely be plenty of speculation put into the episodes. And, granted, most of it will be incorrect, but that’s all part of the fun of watching it.

Didnt anyone notice the chess game that was played between the suspect and the computer in the ex doll factory?

The opening is called “Ruy Lopez – Worrall attack(!)”

It is worth mentioning that white is being force mated in that position (the one they showed on the screen of the monitor). So.. It is “White to play” and white is going to lose. Do u see any hidden messages??

  • Tim

I posted elsewhere that I predict that the series will conclude on Thursday, April 29. Will we get a glimpse into the future to see if ABC will pick it up again for next season? Hmmm. And I also have a theory about the single girl who saw herself on the sonogram table. I think she is gay (ring on the thumb comment by old Nazi). She said she didn’t even have a boyfriend. Furthermore, she rolled her eyes at Didi Gibbons (cupcake lady) when she was talking about her pastor and her church. Maybe too stereotypical, but seemingly has an attitude or preconceptions regarding wide-eyed religious types that are traditionally anti-abortion and anti-gay. I don’t know…maybe talking out my poo-chute.

  • minstral

I think scientists have created tiny black holes. I think it’s called string theory. They’ve then through a black hole been able to propell everyone at the same time into the future. remeber the experiement in Europe (LHC) when they were scared that they would destroy the earth.
My theory … probably wrong but hey it makes sense. Time travel =worm hole or black hole or some scientific experiement.
-Aliens make no sense and is a boring idea
Motive, now that is the real question ???
To kill someone/terorist plot/get someone pregnant/steal something The Colonel’s secret recipe for fried chicken? hmmm….

  • benjajaja

Well.. dimitri just lived only at cost to D gibbons/ frost

  • Tinus Tuozie

I just not know whats wrong with that Janis lady, she seem to be on both sides, serving as a double agent, and by doing that she is making the show boring, I just thought she was going to be genuine and not play around the bad guys.

Great show though, I loved it, it makes you think so much, they should bring the season two and others
