FlashForward may be cancelled but some fans have refused to see the future that ABC has given them. Various campaigns are underway to persuade the alphabet to bring the show back from the cancellation graveyard -- including a planned blackout across cities around the world on June 10th.

To be honest, unless the network is convinced financially, I don’t think there’s much chance of the show coming back for another season. That said, head past the jump for related “Save FlashForward” links and articles, and a couple of other pieces doing the rounds.

It was the premise of FlashForward that drew us in, but we stuck around for the great performances, bizarre plot twists and crazy action scenes. But now, before we even get to see what happens when the long-anticipated moment of truth arrives, it’s looking like FlashForwardis in danger of becoming a flash in the pan. (Meaning cancelled.) We hope it doesn’t, but if it does, the talented and occasionally very funny cast should have no problem getting new jobs. Getting back to the ‘Save FlashForward’ campaigns -- do you plan to join the mass blackout on June 10th? Or do you think it’s all a big waste of time? Feel free to let us know in the comments.

ABC has canceled FlashForward after one season. The final episode of the series will air May 27th.

With that said, feel free to leave your opinions on where you think it all went wrong. How would you have done things differently? Do you think ABC should have stuck with FlashForward for another season? Do you think they’ve made a wise choice? How would you like to see the series conclude and which loose ends do you most want tied up?

Let’s begin with a quick update – ABC have changed the title for the March 18th episode of FlashForward. What was once “Buddha In The Ruins” and “Kairos” (episodes 1.11 and 1.12 respectively), is now the more marketing-friendly (yet slightly overzealous) “Revelation Zero – Parts 1 & 2″. As we mentioned the a couple of months ago, this is a 2 hour episode, marking the relaunch of the show.

ABC TAKES A LOOK BACK AT HOW FUTURE VISIONS HAVE AFFECTED THE “FLASHFORWARD” INHABITANTS SINCE THE GLOBAL BLACKOUT OCCURRED, IN ANTICIPATION OF THE SHOW’S RETURN, IN “FLASHFORWARD: WHAT DID YOU SEE?,” AIRING MARCH 16 ON ABC

On October 6, 2009, the planet blacked out for two minutes and 17 seconds. Some of those who survived saw their future. Others didn’t see anything at all, leading them to assume the worst. “FlashForward: What Did You See?” will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date — but which current viewers will also find illuminating in anticipation of the series’ return. The special airs TUESDAY, MARCH 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

It was just another normal day in Los Angeles. FBI agent Mark Benford and partner Demetri Noh were in the midst of a car chase monitored by their boss, Stanford Wedeck, and colleague Janis Hawk; Mark’s wife, Dr. Olivia Benford, was in the middle of surgery; Dr. Bryce Varley was weighing a potentially life-ending decision; Mark’s friend, Aaron Stark, was working high above the ground on power lines; and baby-sitter Nicole was in the throes of passion with her boyfriend when suddenly and without warning, every person on Earth blacked out and saw a series of events from their own future, taking place on April 29, 2010 at 10:00 p.m., Pacific Time. For some the future was joyous and hopeful; for others, shockingly unexpected; and for a few, it simply didn’t seem to exist.

“FlashForward: What Did You See?” looks at what has transpired with the characters and what lies beyond. Previously, Mark was shocked to learn that he’d be the one who pulls the trigger and kills Demetri, so he’ll do everything he can do avert this while he struggles between saving the world and saving his family. Meanwhile, as the date of his death grows nearer, Demetri wrestles with changing his future or accepting his fate and living out what’s left of his life with fiance, Zoey; Lloyd was kidnapped after he and a reluctant Simon — took responsibility for NLAP’s experiments that caused the blackout; Olivia’s life was spared after Lloyd sacrificed himself to protect her and was kidnapped; Simon volunteered to help the FBI with the Mosaic investigation; Bryce went to Japan to find Keiko — the girl of his flashforward dreams — but came back empty handed; Wedeck’s trip to Washington, DC for Mosaic put him in the path of Senator Clemente, an old political enemy; Janis told Bryce that in her flashforward she was four months pregnant, which leaves little time for that vision to come true; Aaron’s daughter, Tracy, was indeed alive and returned to him, but he’s concerned about her drinking and what the black-ops Jericho unit might do if they find her; and Nicole tried to help Bryce find Keiko while trying to uncover why she saw herself being drowned in her vision. Knowing their fate has altered everyone’s life in one way or another. But can destiny truly be changed? And by changing just one destiny, what effect will that have on those of others?

The summery above pretty much explains everything anyone needs to know to be up to speed with the FlashForward storyline – which is probably why it’s being ‘relaunched’ – to make it more progressive, rich and involving. Here’s hoping!

The recap show airs March 16. FlashForward returns March 18th.

Further details on the FlashForward recap show have emerged. ABC will air the 1 hour clip show, titled FlashForward: What Did You See?, on Tuesday March 16th at 10/9c. It is hoped that the recap will remind people that FlashForward still exists and increase ratings/buzz for the show, which returns March 18th.

Does this mean that ABC are fully behind the relaunch and believe in the quality of the upcoming episodes? Looks that way.

According to SciFi Wire, English actor James Callis, who portrayed Battlestar Galactica’s Gaius Baltar, is joining the cast of FlashForward to play a major role in several episodes towards the end of the season.

FlashForward co-showrunner Jessika Borsiczky on Callis’ arrival:

“When I watched Battlestar, every time he wasn’t in a scene I couldn’t wait for him to come back,” said Borsiczky. “And I really wanted to have an opportunity to work with him. Honestly, since the show was ordered, we’ve been excited to work with him. And I so just cast him in our show. He’s playing a big role in some of the final episodes this season, and it was for that very reason.”

On his character’s role:

“I don’t actually want to tell you anything about the character, because he’s a really exciting, unusual character. So I think it’s going to be fun for the audience. He’s going to be involved with Olivia’s trajectory … some of Olivia’s journey.”

On the behind the scenes changes, including the departure of show-runner David Goyer, Borsiczky said that they “always anticipated David would leave to go do movies”, and that the team was prepared for it. Leaving mid-way through the season is a bit much though, really. I’m not convinced that was ever the plan so it can’t have been easy. But hopefully the new stewards can take the show forward, because it really needs fresh impetus.

There’s also going to be a clip show to bring people up to speed on the story so far. This will air some time before the show returns on March 18th. I doubt I’ll watch – clip shows are usually dumbed down rehashes of what I already know. Not sure I could sit through that! However, I’m sure it will be useful to those ‘new’ viewers who ABC want to capture and bring up to date.

It looks like a Crossing Jordan veteran, Ravi Kapoor, will appear on an upcoming episode of FlashForward. The role doesn’t seem very meaty (although you never know), but we’ve put the spoilery details are below the jump for those who you who want the early information on the character he’ll be playing.

TV Guide are reporting that Ravi Kapoor will play “Malik, a man who comes in contact with Aaron Stark Brian F. O’Bryne when Aaron travels to Afghanistan to search for answers related to his daughter’s military service and subsequent disappearance”.

Although, it’s not quite yet clear when the episode will air it is a positive sign that they seem keen on developing one of the more interesting mysteries of the show. Now, how can we make Mark interesting? Ideas on a postcard.

Tidbit: Ravi Kapoor recently guest stared on an episode of Fringe, titled: Dream Logic, as well as Heroes and 24.

FlashForward returns to ABC on March 18th with brand new episodes.

When David Goyer said he left FlashForward to persue other projects, he wasn’t kidding. The former showrunner is already working on not just one, but a triology of books with screenwriter Michael Cassutt. The trilogy includes Heaven’s Shadow, Heaven’s War and Heaven’s Fall, according to Variety.

The plot centers around an object that is hurtling toward earth threatening to destroy the whole of mankind. Two rival groups of astronauts are sent to intercept the object, only to find that it is inhabited by an alien force. Interested?

Speaking about the project, Goyer said:

“The idea of telling a big story over a series of novels is something I’ve been thinking about for awhile, and a little over a year ago, I actually got down to doing a treatment for one and invited Michael to write the series with me,”

The first novel – ‘Shadow’, is set to hit stands July 2011. The question is, will FlashForward have flashed out long before that time arrives? According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is very likely, but with Flash effectively undergoing a reboot, who knows.

Last week we posted news of David Goyer’s departure as FlashForward showrunner (he remains as executive producer). We wondered who would replace him at the helm of the show, and today we have our answer. According to reports, it’s more a case of how many, as Jessika Borsiczky, Lisa Zwerling and Tim Lea come in as the new showrunners (I believe that Borsiczky and Zwerling have already served as as executive producers).

As for the latest  reduction in season 1 episodes from 23 to 22, The Wrap, suggests that ABC didn’t need the other episode once they had pushed the return date back to March 18th. So there we go, everything is clear. As mud.

Back in October, FlashForward was given a full season order of 24 episodes by ABC. This was cut down to 23 episodes in November. Now we learn that the show has lost another episode, bringing its episode order down to 22.

We do not yet know the reason for the reduction, but it’s likely to be related to David Goyer’s departure as showrunner last week. Fewer remaining episodes would, in theory, mean that the new showrunner will have less difficulty in rounding off the rest of the season.

FlashForward returns with its remaining 12 episodes of the season from March 18th, on ABC.
