FlashForward Flashes Out – ABC Cancel Series

by Roco on May 17, 2010 · View Comments

ABC has canceled FlashForward after one season. The final episode of the series will air May 27th.

With that said, feel free to leave your opinions on where you think it all went wrong. How would you have done things differently? Do you think ABC should have stuck with FlashForward for another season? Do you think they’ve made a wise choice? How would you like to see the series conclude and which loose ends do you most want tied up?

My family and I are devastated that a truly original, thoughtful and beautifully crafted piece of television like this could be cut, with no resolution to the storyline. One can only hope that another forward thinking and intelligent network will pick it up, as CBS did with Medium when another network cancelled it. This was a truly riveting show and we were so looking forward to the next season.

I am absolutely gutted that Series 2 will not be showing. Surely they can't leave it like this?? Episode 22 showed the future again only this time it was further. It didn't end with everyone not waking up. It's left us with questions of what will happen next. There's no way they can just leave it like that.

i am very sorry; i was eager to see the next season

I'm disappointed, but not surprised at all. ABC definitely has the highest body count of good shows canceled and left unresolved. LOST was a fluke, and I feared for several seasons that ABC would make the same stupid move that they do with almost every good continuing mystery-sci-fi show they start.
It's probably safer to not watch ABC at all, then just buy the box sets of the few shows that actually finish.
  • Oshy
I'm writing from Romania. The way season 1 ended, defenetly needs a second season. It's an excellent show. We love it.
And please let the ending of season 2 be less blurry than this one. I felt like crying, and it's not right for a Sci Fi show. Just unrave mystery.
    Thank you.

I'm so disappointed ABC let this one go. If I could not watch the show when it aired I made absolutely sure I recorded it on my DVR. I would often watch it and record it just in case I missed something important. It was very engaging! It allowed the viewer to think and form possible scenarios of upcoming events in the next episodes. This was a major goof on ABC! Now that Lost is gonen to watch ...no reason to continue w ABC. Sorry but I too will boycott.

they need to bring it back. i like the show!
  • Rarendse
Sad to see ABC get it wrong again, why cancel a show like this, Flash Foward is so big in South Africa, i don't no what the guys at ABC are smoking... Flash Foward is the best show i watch in a long, long time......
  • Asd
no ! this can´t be ! in my flashforward I was watching season 02 of flashforward!
  • plottus-interruptus
In mine, I was choking an ABC network executive for canceling yet another of my favorite shows, and leaving us all high and dry with unresolved mysteries.
  • Jen
I am dissapointed by all the unanswered questions. If ABC are not going to make the second series, how about they make a 3 hour finale that answers at least some of what went on. I can't believe we don't know what happens. They owe it to their audience to give us at least some kind of ending!
  • Richard McCabe
Those who have comitted to watch the show in ENGLAND have compared the quality of show with Lost, Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica. If you don't like some of the characters because of their flaws, who wants to watch a show with perfect people? How boring would that be?!?!? I can't beleive the show was cancelled, it was ABC's fault for the massive break in the show and I'm sure it lost quite a few people to watching it due to this...lack of foresight! Why is the show being punished for this, who knows.
I hope Channel 5 pick up the show since half the cast and production team seem to be English anyway, it shouldn't be too difficult to do. Fingers crossed!
  • sarah
It was shown on channel five over here the UK, I guessed that it wasn't good going for it from the off. Remember Invasion (at least I think that's what it was called)? That started airing over here (on channel five) the same time as lost (on channel 4), yet it got cancelled too. The only thing that Five has bought- that seems regular even though I don't watch it- is CSI.

I wish they would at least let the producers tell us what the rest of the plot was going to be, what with such a big cliffhanger at the end of the finale.

Over here, Flashfoward was also up against Glee. But that's called the beauty of E4+1.
  • Lily
Come on intelligent people, pick up this show and run with it. Huge potential, great so far. Anything can happen next if you take the risk and think even further outside the box.

If ABC had no intention of making 2nd season what was point of showing season 1 to its end knowing it left so many questions unanswered??????
I hope some other network picks it up and sticks 2 fingers up to ABC
If I remember rightly did that not happen to BAYWATCH and it went on to be one of the most sucessful TV programs of its time??
  • Gus Lopez
I can't beleive this... the show was soo good. This is a bad decision, and i hope someone else will pick this up and run w/ it. The show is definately great.
  • Kyle
Damn it was classed as "The best show on UK tv.". Over here in england we love our flashforward just hope five decide to make the show themselves then buy the non existent 2nd series from abc. Oh well :(. LONG LIVE FLASHFORWARD
  • Joanne316
Just finished watching the last episode, really fab, gutted there is not going to be a 2nd series, what a stupid decision, leaves the story lines wide open. They should re-think and bring it back.....
  • vix
i agree with kellymay19 loose ends do need tieing up!!!!!!!!!
  • Alec Owens
I thought it was a great finale, and I am truly disappoint that their wont be a second series. I can see that it’s downfalls were focusing too much on individual sob stories (will they – wont they etc.) and the fact the writers spend too much time figuring out how to form a path for a second series but most other criticism I strongly disagree with. I’m still living in hope that another network will pick up on this show still high in potential and bring on a second series!
  • _vix
im so disgusted that i have heard season 2 wont be aired, i have really enjoyed watching the first season. I expected a second and ive just wasted my time getting into it!!! abc are making a huge mistake, cheers for pissing me off i was looking forward to it!!! you cant make a cracking show like that and not make any more!!!!
  • Kellymay19
im from england and i love the show flashforward, we had the last episode tonite, bring it back!! all the loose ends need tieing up.
  • Tonylovesit
starting a boycott of abc spread the word - not just the abc channel - but everything they sell to other channels if its abc turn it off - its not worth watching becasue you know they'll just cancel it at some point anyway -

  • Ryan Nicoll
must stick with another series! the first series was superb! best tv show i have seen! a second series would only make it better!
  • Marissa Mackenzie
I am absolutely disgusted with ABC (A Bunch of Cowards - and I could call them something else!!!) So unfair this was one of the best shows I have watched in a long time. May they live to regret this decision, in fact better still I hope they go bankrupt!! So mote it be.
  • Luvdolfin
Well, I loved it as well. There are so many brainless shows out there, it was nice to have a mental thriller. I will so miss it. Maybe follow it up with a movie like they did with Firefly, the movie serenity...I though that was a good way to fix taking it away as a tv show but it was definitely deserving of more story!
  • Hobbit
If you want flashforward back go this site and sign the petition pleaseeee!!! Thanks

Bring it back! give it to BBC and continue!
  • Richardl
ABC: we know that the goal is make money, but the audience deserve some respect too... When a show is cancelled must have an end.
  • I'm writing from Russia too. A lot of people in Russia like FlashForward and we very sad about this news. FlashForward is a my favorite show and ABC make mistake.
  • Helena
hi, i'm writing from Russia and i'm so sad about canceling this show. flash forward is one of the best series ever! hope some other network will buy it.
  • Dzimira
NIECH GINĄ!!!!!!! CI Z ABC, OFC

  • Niecy 7
I'm very sad about the ending. ANd if you knew there would be no second season, why leave all the unconected pieces to the puzzle. Maybe another network will pick it up. Great show!
  • Steph
    Bring It Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Jen
    BRING IT BACK
  • Alper_aydemir82
This show is not merely a tv show of American viewers. It has actually become a phenomenon throughout the world. I have many friends from Brazil to Japan and they are all big fans and followers of this show. I am sure it will be picked up by another network for its second season as it has a huge demand from the networks worldwide.
  • 2peros3gatos
The show didn't have a chance because it is an intelligent, engaging, original drama. The first major mistake ABC made was going into a lenghty hiatus right after the show started. The microsecond sized attention span of the American public couldn't withstand the long wait coupled with the complex theme and plot that required actual thought. In this day of Idol, Dancing and the many other vouyeristic views of humiliation and disgrace, thoughtful dramas are dead.
  • Waiting for the DVD set
We love the show. It engaged the whole family in conversation from one week to the next. We began to speculate on character and plot development. This is the only show where the family sat together each week, to watch. This something considering we are a Mom, Dad and two teenage girls! Maybe if the ABC "exec's" were to "flash forward" to next year they may see the potential of the show!
  • Saleenag43
i love the show and am very sad to see it is being cancled i hope that CBS will change its mind and do a season two
  • Verandateevee
please keep it on for at least another season...when it aired i jokingly said 'it's too good...they will cancel it"...i wasnt supposed to be clairvoyant!!!!
It would have had a bigger audience if it wasnt up against Glee and the NB comedy lineup...
  • Mike
I think the big problem was that ABC put the show on hold for several months. Perhaps a different executive at ABC didn't like the show to put it on hold hoping people would "forget" to start watching it again.

I enjoyed the premise, it was Sci-Fi which is seriously lacking in most network shows these days. (I enjoyed Life on Mars for this reason.) However, the writing could have been improved. The interactions between Benford and his wife seemed unreal to me, how they were driving a wedge in their marriage, in that regard they were acting like idiots. Beyond that I felt is was a good series.
  • rosco
Some other network might pick it up. Too bad they leaked news that FF and V were competing for a second season, and then re-uped V last week. FF viewers were left to take the hint.
  • Javier Fraire
It´s just a fucking business for them, if it doesn't leave money, it's worthless. I am so angry because the series is good. I think they must have made a second season to see if it gained followers. Fucking ABC!!!!!!1
  • Fred Jobin
I'm so pissed right now... It was my fear when i first heard it would air on ABC. Some shows need at least 2 seasons to get things going, moreover they completly broke the first season in two with a HUGE break in the middle, which was effin' stupid, some may have lost interest then... Maybe HBO would have been a better choice...

Yeah for stupid show with no hard substance... Don't make the people think too hard, bad for the control we can get over them... pffffffffffffffff...
  • Russell fox
I think it's a shame who cares about the ratings In the states in the uk the ratings are far better the yours they should carry on making it but for the English fans. I do love flashforward olivia and lloyd are ment to be together.
  • nub
who wants to go and threaten abc to bring back all the shows that we like...
  • Hector
I loved the show and i really really really suggest that abc should stick with the show another season. I will admit the show did get kinda sad for about two episodes but come on people that happens to every show. Lost a show that seariously should have been cancelled ill years ago look how it picked up and got to the last season (finally). ABC should post flashfoward one more season and change it to another day say, Monday or tuesday night. I have no shows to watch then, and i bet many of the people missed the show in the air and went back a few days later to watch it online. I want to start a petition or something to get the show atleast one more season. IF ABC doest want it then give it to Fox!! Fringe and Flashfoward back to back would be awsome!!! Email me if you want to start the petition for the show!! no1bballer315@yahoo.com
  • AlphaB
So sad to see this show cancelled. We don't usually watch much TV 'cause there just isn't that much that is engaging! We enjoyed this show and hope that a miniseries (with the same cast of course!) will be considered.
  • JAM
I really want to like this show, but at some point, dont you just want to tell Mark to shut up!? REALLY He knows better but is just an idiot with NO self control
  • sideshow
This show is excellent and can't understand why ABC cancelling this one but having a second season of V(2010) which is alright but I could live without, whereas Flashforward will be missed.
  • Joe
Robert Sawyer, whose book Flashforward is based on told a radio station in Kitchener, 570 News, that he thinks ABC will eventually see cancelling this show as a big mistake. He was hoping for one more season to be able to explain more of the characters and stories.
He also indicated the actors have already moved onto other projects. He noted Janice, the FBI agent will be appearing in a comedy this fall.
  • Marcos
I feel bad that the show never really reached its potential. Here are my reasons why I think it was cancelled: http://ow.ly/1MNaV
  • SCH
I really hope they tie up all the loose ends and don't leave us hanging. It would be torture to get this far into the season/story line and drop it. Hate to see it go-
  • Marcel
Sad news, i love this show.. We don't watch a show like that every year...

    Marcel from Belgium
  • BrentDavid
This is a great show and I am very sad to see it go. It has been many years that I make sure that I am home to watch a TV show and as each episode ends I can't wait till next week to see what happens. I really hope this isn't true and that they pull their heads out to see that they are passing on a great show.
  • Bruce
Is there any prayer that ABC will actually tie up ANY loose ends for this show? Very very sad. It would be nice if they specially filmed an extra couple of episodes just to shut it down nicely
  • Jan Todd
Very sad to hear this. I love that this show makes you think. It will be very hard to tie up the storyline in the last 2 weeks that are left.
  • I loved this show! I have been doing a LOST podcast for years, and recently picked up doing this show as well for a podcast. I feel Mark Benford is a mix of Jack and Sayid.

yes, there were problems with the show: Such as, What the freak is up with Brice! I mean, yeah he is an interesting character, but how does he fit in with everything else. He just isn't connected.

The whole problem is, they have given Brice an actual story, some character development and more. When other people like *Janice, Weddick, Demitri* Very little character development. Unless it turns out that Brice is a bad guy, or working for the FBI or something crazy .. Then whats the point to us watching him? Except for the Hot chicks he picks up?

Anywyas, outside of that - I do love this show! - This is the only show that has come out and makes you think since LOST. LOST is now ending, and Flash Forward is now ending. So what happens next? I mean, Do we really need to go back to the days where no show is capable of making you think more then 3 seconds about where the show will end up. I'm personally tired of watching shows like *CSI, Law and Order, House, Desperate house wives* Give me something Complex! aghhh
  • Dave
I'm with you on this one - no show is perfect, but what I really liked about LOST and Flashforward is that it engages you at many levels and that fostered a lot of online discourse - these days it seems that no-one wants to be engaged but just spoon fed predigested pablum...
  • Guest.NZ
I agree, thats what I feel happened too, America just wants to be spoon fed all this reality tv rubbish rather than having to think while watching a show... (well not all obviously).
But in Goyers own words, FF did really really well overseas.
Really hope some other network picks the show up in the future.
  • Jose
I'm actually glad to hear this. I have kept with the show from no1 hoping something would happen but have just found it painful. My suggestion for season ending? Another blackout but they don't wake up.
  • kevin
I THINK THE SHOW WAS ALSOME AND NEEDS TO BE AIRED FOR ANOTHER SEASON
